Gardening

The garden spot has been resting and is now respaded an ready for some new planting. There will be a few potted carrots and some potted red leaf lettuce put in the ground Sunday. The snow peas and the beans are a couple of the vegetables that pleased me best last year. Those seeds will be planted. There is one tomato plant that has come-up from its parents and I will preserve it. Later more things will be added.

More doctoring

Today should be repeat of yesterday. Yesterday it was about the internist Dr. Kimm. Today it is to be with the retina specialist Dr. Rosen. He will check my eyes and as with Dr. Kimm nothing new is expected.

Routine doctoring.

I a few minutes I will be on the way to Kaiser for my 1st visit to the my new internist, Dr. Sandra Kimm. The former internist Dr. Buch did good doctoring for me. I do not expect that Dr. Kimm will find too much to be concerned about. The cold, the slight lung infection and the eye infection have all cleared-up.

New doctor

My Kaiser Doctor, Dr. Buch, a Kaiser Dr. for 35 years retired. The new doctor that was chosen is Doctor Sandra Kimm. I will be seeing for the first visit on March 29. She has requested two blood tests to be completed. One is for a 12 hour fasting test for cholesterol. The other is a SGPT. A liver enzyme test to see if any pervious drug has caused any liver problems. I have not been on any prescriptions except for 2 eye drops and Fosamax for more than a year. I am pleased that she is checking.

Relaxation

A humble and inadequate sample of an Andy Rooney essay:
When younger, fully employed and busy with family it is ordinary that when 2 two hours is the recommended time needed to catch a train, that is what is allotted. You miss the train a few times, mush stress. When you grow older if 2 hours are suggested, you allow 2 ½, trains are seldom missed with much less stress. As you become old and the same 2 hours are suggested, you use 3 with nothing but relaxation.

Feeling much better

At last, maybe a normal Sunday. I am feeling so much better after the tougher cold than I cared for. Iwill be at UU’s where Holly Near is the main attraction, maybe some soup at STMC and then do whatever I feel like.

Wayne, Cynthia, Andrew, Matthew, Susan and I will be at Andrew’s graduation from the Hollywood Music Institute in Hollywood this morning. We will all be there helping Andrew move and get on with his new life.

Andrew's Graduation

Wayne’s will in the area tomorrow to attend Andrew’s graduation from the Hollywood Music Institute. We will have time for dinner at Cantor’s. In the evening there will be a private party at The Knitting Factory. I have no idea what that will be like, a party for graduates of a music school. Andrew is graduate drummer and I sure that they teach all kinds of music. I am looking forward to that. The graduation will on Saturday morning.

DVD

The Netflix DVD The Wedding Singer (three stars) had been viewed and rated. The rating would have been (two stars) if the second half of the movies was as good as it was. Thanks for recommending it.

This Cold

Dr Saed at Kaiser diagnosed my cold trouble as a slight infection in the left lung and a case of pinkeye. While there I filled the prescription for a antibacterial pills for the lungs and some antibacterial drops for eyes. Now I am on my way to getting rid of the discomforts of this cold that has been with me for too long.

This cold

This cold is still hanging on. So far as I know it is a head cold that just will not quit. So far the chest and is working right. I have tried a number of things and they give some relief, but no cure. I may not give it another day and will call Kaiser and let them do what they can. I have run out ideas and will use their expertise.

Nothing new so just a picture of some gentlemen enjoying their coffee.

This cold

When one has reached 87, one likes to sit back and let the world turn by itself, without trying to push it.

That sounds so good, but what if the world is pushing back some. Such as with his cold that I believe has piggy-backed on the one that had not yet finished. I am doing well enough but it is hanging on too long and the voice box is still giving me the most trouble. I keep Kaiser’s phone number handy, in case it is needed.

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK DAY!

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY!

Not all of us can claim much Irish ancestry, but we all wish that we could claim more for this day.

Two thing have improved. The computer display has returned to show the red pixels. Now the colors are normal. I do not have any hint of an explanation. The Charley Rose Show has returned to the TV screen and at the regular time. I think it was suspended for a time to allow some addition programming for their March Pledge Drive.

The voice box

For the past few days my voice box has not been normal. The voice deeper and not to distinct. Not to many other symptoms that are not associated with a cold. I have been monitoring the condition and it does not seen to be getting worse or better. I monitor my temperature and heart rate, they are normal. I will plan a Kaiser doctoring trip in mind if things do not get better soon.

Tom and Kathy

Tom and Kathy arrived about 5 P. M. and got settled into Days Inn only a few blocks away. We had dinner at Izzy’s Delia and they were ready of a relaxing evening. We will plan in the morning after breakfast at the Pacific Dinning Car.

Tom and Kathy's trip.

Tom and Kathy called from along highway #1 that they were having a great time in California. They will be in this area on Thursday mooning. It will be interesting to here their report of their visiting part of the state. We have no definite plans for what we will see here. It will be fun to be with them. I can post you on what all has been going on so far in their trip.

Display troubles

High tech equipment still keeps giving people some problems. Now my LCD computer display had started malfunctioning. It will not excite the red pixels. That means that the black is okay and the where it should be white is sort a light blue green. It is alright for word processing and anything where color is not important. Checked with Sony and they gave an estimate of $275. That is more than an equivalent display can be purchased. It is almost six year old and Sony has not interest in anything more than seven. It all reminds me too much of our throw-a-way society. It is doubtful that I can repair it without schematics. They are not available.

A Phto

I like portraits, so this picture of an Old Man Of the Sea should be enough for today to let you know that all is well.

The social life.

My social life seems to be moving along okay, at least the dinning part. Friday evening I was at Saint Johns Medical Center for a very good beef and broccli aChinees type dish, Saturday morning with Nick and Jim at Rae’s Dinner, Saturday evening in Brentwood with Paige, Brent with their daughter and Paige’s mother, today I will be at the Getty Mueseum Harold Williams Auditorium to listen to The Sounds of LA with something to eat after, on Monday Nick and I will be at the Swiss Club in Whithier for lunch. Sounds hectic but it is spread out and all is well.

Warmer Days Ahead

This coming Sunday, Monday and Tuesday it is supposed to be in the low 80’s and high 80’s. It would be a good days to be at the beach and reading a book. Not many of us will get that chance, but it is something nice to think about.

ARMD

Yesterday I found out some information about age related macular degeneration ARMD that will be of some help of members of the family. So far as I know no relatives of mine has had ARMD. That does not mean much as it is disease of late in life and just may not have shown up. At yesterdays meeting of the ARMD support group at the Jules Stien Eye Institute at UCLA they had a talk by a retinaeonologist and a researcher on the possibility of inheritance of ARMD. He, after 16 year, of research could not come a definite conclusion that it is inherited. He did recommended that if someone in the family has ARMD the family members should be aware and do what is available to lessen its future effect. This not much to go on, there isn’t much.

Missing shows.

A few year ago the TV program Politically Incorrect disappeared from my TV screen. Now The Charlie Rose Show has disappeared. I know why they pulled the Politically Incorrect show but I don’t know about the other. The Charlie Rose Show was on NPR and if they gave a warning or explanation, I did not here it. I miss that show as it was recorded each evening and viewed during breakfast. I am not sure that progress is certain.

Advice

It is not a good idea to try medical advice from family member or friends. Their advice about what worked for them may not have the same results of. This cold that has given me some discomfort has been relieved by taking a 500mg of acetaminophen (Teylenal) at bedtime and an hour before arising. It allowed me to have an ordinary nights rest and awaken without the morning congestion. Medical history is not made by the trial of one person for one particular condition. Even with all the precautions, I would suggest giving it a try.

They have a have plans to arrive in Sacramento, visit Tahoe, San Francisco, Yosemite the coast Southern California and leave from San Diego. It will give them an opportunity of see much of the variation of our scenery and weather. They have been given some phone number and they know some of their family that are in the state. They will have a great time. I expect that we will an time to get together.

Colds

All good thing comes to an end. For the past 10 years I have only a couple of colds. So far this year I am having my second one. There is not any explanation that is known to me. They have both been mild but troublesome.

This has nothing to do with the above. I like Andy Rooney’s 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have 50-50 chance of getting something right, there’s a 90 percent probability you’ll get it wrong.

Movies

If my advice is taken you will not need to bother with the DVD How To Lose A Guy in 10 days . You can figure out from the start where the action will end. It is just a series of not always cleaver events. I will be looking forward to the next DVD from Netflix. Most of the movies that have been selected have been good.

Birthdays

Today is Elizabeth’s and Amber’s birthday. Joan, Amber, Elizabeth and Aidan all have their birthday’s in a week of each other. The family also has a few close together in July and others in September. It is hard to keep track of them all. Birthdays do come around too fast.

An okay day ahead

Not much to do to today. The plans are to spend some time outside, travel around some on the Segway and dinner at St. Johns Medical Center Cafeteria. Sound okay to me.

It's March

A photo of the forgotten place. Who's I don't know.
It is hard to believe that it is already March?
