Book Fair

I spent more than eight hours at the Los Angeles Times Book Fare at UCLA. The discussions by popular authors were interesting. In the evening we had a screening of a new movie that is due out on May 4,"Missing You" It was a great movie concerning Alzheimer's disease. The situations had some parallels to Norma's and my life.

This Thursday

There is nothing so new expected today. Thursday is the day of the week that I have breakfast at St. John's medical Center. That is the day of the week for eggs, bacon, and coffee. Most of the other days I do breakfast at home, There is nothing that I know needs to be done. For me such a day is usually filled with puttering around outside. Reading, listening to audio books, going out for coffee and dinner. Things are going smoothly.

A new day

It is seldom that I look forward to a day that I cannot see something new, an idea or and action that will not be new or a challenge. I also have lived long enough to know that no day will finish without at least one the above will have happened. Life is interesting.

This Sunday

It was a great birthday party at John’s place to get Lasslo started in this sixth year. There were far more adults than children. Most of John’s traveled from Vermont and Anne’s from Arizona. It is as big outdoor event.

This will be mostly an ordinary Sunday for me.

Birthday

We did get a few hours of rain. The garden got wet from rain. The 1st time this year. I am sure that all vegetation will benefit from the moisture.

Today I will be going with Anne’s family to Tarzana to celebrate Lasslo’s fifth birthday. There is the a family and a good sized group, some from out of state. It is a fun event.

Rain

Rain is expected. That would not usually make news but we are so short of moisture that we hope the areas possibility of probable rain will cause much needed relief.

It will not interfere with my day for laundry, coffee breaks and dinner later.

A simple day.

Nothing to new is planed for this day. I will go to Kaiser to pick a prescription for Fosamax. In the past I had ordered them from Canadandrugs. Com. Now they are free of patient restrictions and the price a Kaiser is the most reasonable. That preventive drug and the two different eye drops are the only prescription that are used.

Reading

I enjoy reading biographies. The one that I have started it is about Margret Sanger. What a lady? It is written by Magdalene Gray. It has been checked out from our UU library. It will be one of the best that I have read in a long time.

Margret Sanger (September 14,1879 - September 6, 1966) was an American birth-control activist, an advocate of certain aspects of eugenics, and a founder of the American Birth-Control League (which eventually became planned parenthood).

IRS

The 2006 tax forms have been filled out and dropped in the mailbox. My tax situation isn’t complicated. I does seem like it takes a long time and much going over. It all looks so simple after it is all finished. There will be a few dollars coming back as the 2005 estimate was too high. The interest rates sagged and so less income. No problem. The rate is coming back up. Inflation seems worse than the published figures. My wish is that they would use a standard-of-living rate. Things may not get that much more expensive but a person seems to need so much more different stuff and services.

A DVD

Wedding Planner, The 4 13 07

Mary is a professional wedding planner who almost is married by in an arranged marriage but in the last moments the DVD plot comes to a climax and she marries someone she really loves. This is a DVD that will not make it too high on the charts. I give it three starts as it is good drama and enjoy wedding movies and can recall a number that I enjoyed.

Visting

Paul, Leslie and Nickolas will be here about noon after spending the night in Carpentaria about 100 miles north of here. I am sure we can find a nice place for lunch. Then we will on to the next item, so far mostly unplanned, for our visiting.

To set the mood here is a photo of part of Santa Monica. Not all of Santa Monica is beach, but it is what people photograph.

Living alone

The following is something that Julia Child wrote.
Always remember if you’re alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always pick it up. Who’s going to know?

The same goes for living alone. Which has some drawbacks and some positives in its favor.
While living alone and you do something dumb or unwise you can always undo or correct it. Who’s going to know?

Marianne

A call to my sister Marianne provided the following information: She is #6 on the waiting list to enter a Senor Home in Rochester, MN. She has been doing pre-testing for hip surgery, maybe six months in the future. She has some heat trouble and diabetes so they must be cautious. She will sell her home she has been living in for almost 60 years. Her daughter Donna’ husband, Carl Hoehne, as sold their extensive land holding between Rochester and Pine Island, MN for 36 million. Marianne is doing fine and doing what needs to be done with her eyes wide open.

Colorado Scene

This is one of the numerous photos sent by Paul and taken during one of the recent business trip to a state that many of us have fond views and memories.

I had some trouble getting them to a location that would all0w them to uploaded. Some need some back-lighting to show them off at their best.

Art

Every now and then I get a feeling that there is some art that should be created. The latest is computer art using Corel-8 software. It consist of color, hard lines and designs. So far I am pleased with some of the results.

A DVD

I enjoyed the DVD Kate, two stars, and Leopold . Meg Ryan is always delightful. One thing that is nice about the 41 inch screen is that when you have really good actors and actress, they do things with their eyes that show up so interestingly on the large screen.
