It was sometime ago that I was informed that Starbucks would supply coffee grounds for use on gardens. Today I acted on the suggestion and asked a local outlet if they had any for me. They let me know that if they knew when a wished to pick them up they would have some for me. I about an hour I had more then 5 pounds of grounds. Starbucks are only too pleased to provide them.
Coffee by-products that can be used in the garden.
Sprinkle you grounds around plants before rain or watering, for a slow release nitrogen.
Add to compost piles to increase nitrogen balance. Coffee filters and tea bags breakdown readily during composting.
Dilute with water for a gentle, fast acting liquid fertilizer. Use about half-pound can of wet grounds in a 5 gallon bucket of water, let sit outdoors to achieve ambient temperature.
Mix into soil for houseplants or new vegetable beds.
Encircle the base of the plant with coffee and eggshell barrier to repel pests.
If you are into vermi-posting, feed a little to your worms.
